Our Mission
Benjamin Franklin is credited with the first library in 1731, the Philadelphia Library Company. It too was a subscription/membership based library, funded by its members. Other cities followed suit in opening their own subscription libraries. Franklin once wrote, "these Libraries have improved the general Conversation of Americans, made the common Tradesman and Farmers as intelligent as most Gentlemen from other Countries, and perhaps have contributed in some Degree to the Stand so generally made throughout the Colonies in Defence of their Privileges." One thing to note about this quote, back in those days, "conversation" meant, according to Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary: general course of manners; behavior; deportment; especially as it respects morals.
These are some things we too hope to achieve: improvement of moral behavior, increased intelligence, and helping to encourage Americans to stand up and defend our rights, lest we forget that our rights actually come from God (not the government) and are to be defended by the Constitution and government.

To that end, it is our mission to provide a space and resources for parents, children, and homeschoolers that fosters these goals, a library:
In addition, we will act as an education resource center, a place for parents seeking resources and assistance that enables them to better direct their children's education.
- devoted to children and parents;
- full of wholesome, virtuous books of principle;
- with books containing accurate history that honors our country;
- that sees Creation as a valid science theory;
- unafraid to put out books that are counter to the mainstream narrative;
- that will proudly include Christian fiction for children; and
- that will protect children from dangerous ideology that is counter to biblical teaching, science, history, and/or traditional American ideals.
In addition, we will act as an education resource center, a place for parents seeking resources and assistance that enables them to better direct their children's education.
Ronald Reagan once said, "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free."
To protect our freedom is to properly educate the next generation. Our mission at The Book Barn Library is to help parents properly educate their children: to fear God, love their neighbor, and defend our country and the freedoms that allow us to do both.
